The Carbon Neutral Garden is now  closed for the winter

The Carbon Neutral Garden won a Silver Gilt Medal at 2007's RHS show at Tatton Park. The innovative garden has been designed and created by landscape architects TEP and built by English Landscapes on behalf of the North West Development Agency. The concept at the heart of the design is the carbon cycle and the whole garden is geared towards demonstrating how to offset the carbon dioxide produced during the creation of a garden.  As well creating an educational tool, the designers have minimised the carbon footprint of the garden and off-set any CO2 created in order to ensure that it leads by example.

The garden features a number of sustainable and recycled products in its design, such as reclaimed timber, recycled glass, solar-powered features and plenty of limestone, which is particularly good at storing carbon.

FAIRTRADE COMES TO THE SOLARIS CENTRE

On 24th October 2008 the Solaris Centre was officially launched as Blackpool's first Fairtrade Venue by Cllr Tony Lee. Invited dignitaries included our local MP, Gordon Marsden.

The Lite Bite cafe now offers a tasty selection of Fairtrade products to customers. Clients using our meeting rooms are now served Fairtrade tea and coffee.

This initiative contributes to the sustainability ethos of the Solaris Centre.

Totally Transport  28th June 2009

Click the images below for enlarged picturesfrom previous years.

Totally Transport is one of the North West's biggest classic transport festivals. Where else will you see a gathering of classic buses, cars, coaches, commercial vehicles, motorbikes and trams at a single venue?

It is your chance to see those old buses, commercial vehicles, motorbikes and cars all on display on Blackpool's unique New South Promenade. The event is based opposite the Solaris Centre where there is the opportunity to talk to the preservation groups and buy that extra special collectable item or piece of history. The Solaris Centre plays a part in the event showcasing stalls for exhibitors of transport memorabilia,  model tram and railway exhibitions, a tombola in the Lite Bite Cafe and outdoor live music.

If you missed the event this year, do not fear - Totally Transport will return next summer!

Thank you to all those who organised, helped and of course, attended the event.

Totally Transport is hosted by the Lancastrian Transport Trust (LTT), a Blackpool-based registered charity dedicated to preserving the resort's transport heritage.

The LTT is grant funded by Blackpool Borough Council and Blackpool Challenge Partnership.

The Lancastrian Transport Trust is a registered charity, number 1080404.
